Winter storms often bring excitement to children—snowball fights, sledding, and unexpected school closures. But for one young boy in Capron, Virginia, the recent snowstorm was more than just a winter wonderland; it was an opportunity to serve his community.
When the storm hit Southampton County, it disrupted more than just daily routines—it temporarily shut down the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, a crucial resource for those in need. However, Family4Eternity, a dedicated nonprofit that operates out of Pine Level Baptist Church in Capron, wasn’t going to let bad weather stand in the way of its mission. Led by Charles Bazdanes, Family4Eternity serves eight counties, working tirelessly 22 days a month to ensure no one goes hungry.
For 11-year-old Landon Adkins, the snow day wasn’t just a break from school—it was a call to action. “When he woke up, he said, ‘How are we going to feed the people today?’” Bazdaneus recounted.
Determined to make a difference, Landon and Bazdanes loaded a cart full of food and braved the cold to deliver meals to local seniors who depend on Family4Eternity’s support. Despite the freezing temperatures, Landon was driven by compassion. “It made me feel good by giving them food,” he said. “I feel like they needed it.”
His mother, Katlyn Javins, couldn’t be prouder. “As a mom, I am very proud of him, and everybody really feels amazing—it warms my heart,” she shared.
The community took notice of Landon’s kindness. His selfless act quickly spread through local Facebook pages, where neighbors expressed their admiration. “Just nothing but outstanding love and support,” Javins said. “What a great young man, what an amazing young man.”
For those receiving the food, the gratitude was overwhelming. “They felt blessed, I think,” Landon humbly shared. “They said, ‘Thank you, I really appreciate it.’”
Family4Eternity continues to be a beacon of hope, ensuring that no storm—literal or metaphorical—prevents them from serving those in need. Landon’s story is a testament to the power of compassion and community, proving that even the smallest hands can make a big impact.
If you’d like to support Family4Eternity and their mission to fight hunger, consider volunteering or making a donation. Every act of kindness brings warmth to those who need it most—no matter the weather.
